Description
Myler Stainless Steel Full Cheek with Hooks, MB 33 Medium Wide Ported Barrel, Level 3
The MB 33 is the mildest Myler mouthpiece in terms of tongue pressure. The generously wide port allows room for the tongue to pass almost completely under the bit. Because this mouthpiece does not rotate on to the tongue and the port is wide, it applies little to no tongue pressure, working primarily off the lips and bars. The port on this mouthpiece is only 1 ½” high, so it will apply little to no palate pressure. Because the MB 33 offers such a high degree of tongue relief, the horse that goes well in this mouthpiece has a trustworthy and consistent disposition, and is trained to work off the leg and seat as well as the hands.
- Independent Side Movement
- Stainless Steel Mouthpiece
- Curved Mouthpiece
- Copper Inlay
- NOT Dressage Legal
Notes: For a slight increase in tongue pressure, see the MB 43LP or MB 43MP. For same tongue relief without Independent Side Movement, see the MB 16 (Western only). For the same tongue relief and Independent Side Movement, but with a slight degree of collapse, see the MB 05. For more generous tongue relief, see the MB 16PB.
The full cheek with hooks is a traditional cheek style designed to be used with bit keepers (sold separately) to hold the bit in correct position. The posts also prevent the bit from sliding through the mouth while applying cheek pressure. When used without bit keepers, bit will sit in the mouth similarly to a dee or eggbutt without hooks. The ring has fixed attachment of the mouthpiece, as well as one rein slots (“hooks”) at the bottom of the ring for rein attachment. No attachment for curb chain or strap. TThe rein slot will fit standard ⅝” bridle leather.
The hook makes this a much more versatile bit than one without the hook. Using bit keepers to hold the post in the correct position stabilizes the bit in the bridle instead of allowing it to flop forward. Attaching the reins to the rein hooks allow the rider to lift the cheek and use the Independent Side Movement™ of the mouthpiece. Using the rein hooks does not add leverage but allows the rider to transition from a direct rein action to indirect action without changing the bit.
Action: Direct rein action when reins are not attached through rein hook. Indirect rein action when rein is fixed on rein hook.
Size: Rounded 2 ¼” ring, 6″ overall height
Discipline: Primarily English with bit keepers. Commonly used in Western without bit keepers.
Degree of Leverage: Little to no leverage when the hooks are used
