MYLER® WESTERN DEE WITH HOOKS CORRECTIONAL WIDE PORT MB 41BPW 5″ BIT

Myler Stainless Steel Western Dee with Hooks, MB 41PBW Correctional Wide Port, Level 2-3

The MB 41PBW is a truly unique Myler mouthpiece. This mouthpiece is a correctional mouthpiece, a ported mouthpiece that collapses on to the outer lip and bars, and rotates on to the tongue. The port has a tiered design; the base is generously wide with rounded corners, offering virtually the same comfort and tongue relief of a Level 3 mouthpiece, while the top is narrower and has pronounced corners. If the horse is relaxed, the tongue can pass comfortably under the wide opening. When the reins are engaged, the mouthpiece collapses on to the bars and lips and rotates on to the tongue. The pronounced corners of the port apply two points of pressure on the tongue for increased control. The result is a mouthpiece that offers maximum tongue relief for the horse, but very good control for the rider. The unique design and the generous tongue relief of the MB 41PBW make it the only correctional that can be used long term, possibly even as a horse’s finishing bit. Sweet iron mouthpiece oxidizes and encourages salivation.

  • Independent Side Movement
  • Sweet Iron Mouthpiece
  • Curved Mouthpiece
  • Copper Inlay

Notes: For the same tongue relief see the MB 05, for a non-correctional mouthpiece with the same tongue relief, see the MB 33. For slightly more tongue pressure, see the MB 43LP. For quicker tongue pressure and less tongue relief, see the correctional MB 27PB.

The western dee with hooks is a circular stainless steel ring with fixed attachment of the mouthpiece, with top and bottom rings (“hooks”) for headstall and rein attachment. The small loop behind the top slot accommodates a curb strap (attach with two curb hooks). The top bridle ring will fit standard ⅝” leather found on most headstalls. The bottom rein ring has recently been updated to fit slobber straps up to approximately 1 ¾”. The knob on the top of the rein ring is for decoration—it has no function.

The hooks make this a much more versatile version of the dee without hooks. Attaching the headstall to the top hook holds the bit in the correct position instead of allowing it to slide around the bridle cheek pieces. Attaching the reins to the rein hooks allow the rider to lift the cheek and use the Independent Side Movement™ of the mouthpiece. Using the hooks does not add leverage but allows the rider to transition from a direct rein action to indirect action without changing the bit. Adding a curb strap (using a Myler curb strap kit) incorporates curb pressure. Curb pressure is recommended for ported mouthpieces.

Size: 3″ offset ring

Action: Direct rein action when reins are not attached through rein hook. Indirect rein action when rein is fixed on rein hook.

Discipline: Primarily Western

Degree of Leverage: Little to no leverage when the hooks are used
